The newest Book by Authors anthology “New Orleans by New Orleans” launched in a music-filled library meeting room replete with readings by contributing writers and artists on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
Doors opened at 7 pm at Jefferson Parish Library, with live jazz by Jim O. & The No Shows filling the air, plus refreshments from CC’s Community Coffee House and Roberts Market.
The evening featured an open mic from 7:30 until 9 pm with New Orleans-area authors reading their pieces aloud directly from the book. Audience members often read along, applying the author’s voice and rhythm to the words on the page, while others sat back to simply watch and listen, enjoying each author’s personal performance of his or her own written words.
Leslie Smith Everage reading her nonfiction essay, “Momma’s Tea Cakes: Baked with Love.”
Rachel Dangermond reading her nonfiction piece, “Who I Am.”
Joy Suzanne Grazer reading her short fiction, “Interview with a House.”
Randall P. Roussell reading “Breakfast.”
Kimberly Nagle reading “Life: A Bumpy Road.”
Carolyn Perry reading “Lovely Rita, Meter Maid.”
With more than 50 contributing authors, dozens of artists, and a selection committee, New Orleans by New Orleans is a community ensemble, the result of more than 100 minds from a diverse range of perspectives and walks of life.
